Whether you are travelling by yourself, as a couple, with a bunch of friends or as a larger group: the Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel offers a friendly and cozy atmosphere for its international guests. Families are very welcome and are happy to book our spacious apartments. The house was colourfully decorated by local graffiti artists and is a popular photo opportunity both for passers-by and our guests alike.

In our typical Berlin building we offer a cheap and individually styled accommodation with numerous completely free amenities. Among other things, you have a kitchen for communal use, lockable cabinets in the dorms, computer-terminals for surfing the internet (also wifi), table football and much more. A good opportunity to spend a few nice days on a low-budget in Berlin!

The Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel Berlin is centrally located in the middle of Berlin's trendy district of Prenzlauer Berg. Not far away from our Backpacker Hostel the Berlin Wall was located, dividing the city into East- and West-Berlin. The popular “Mauerpark” (with its great flea-market on Sundays!) is a reminiscent of this period of history. Today, life pulsates in Prenzlauer Berg and residents and tourists mingle in this district, which is not only popular for its many shopping and leisure activities. “Helmholtzplatz”, “Kollwitzplatz” and “Kastanienallee” are great spots to stroll around and enjoying yourselves. Perhaps with a fantastic coffee from “Impala”, a superb coffee-takeaway nearby. Also the nearby “Kulturbrauerei” (a former brewery, that has been refurbished into a cultural focal point) with its “Frannz Club”, the concert venue “Kesselhaus” as well as theaters, a cinema and cozy beergarden in summertime make the Prenzlauer Berg into a crowd puller. But also Berlin Mitte, with its many attractions such as Alexanderplatz, Museum Island, Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag are near and just three stops away on the subway.

Nobody needs to leave our hostel hungry in the morning: for only 3.00 € per person/day we offer a breakfast buffet including coffee, tea, toast, salami, cheese, jam, honey, chocolate spread, cornflakes with milk and fresh fruit to our guests.

It is now possible for you to book a late check-out at Alcatraz. For only 3.00 € per person you can make use of your room on the day of departure until 1 p.m.! Book your late check-out ahead when booking online at Alcatraz, so you can start your journey home well-rested!

Now available at Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel: Tickets for various walking tours through Berlin. For only 12 € you can for example take a tour of the historic Berlin. Among other things, the tour takes you to the Chancellery, the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Hitler's bunker, Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt and Museum Island. It lasts a total of 4 hours and departs daily at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

We also offer other tours such as a trip to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp or to Potsdam's palaces and gardens. If you want more information, just talk to us!

The entrance door to the hostel is secured with a numerical code lock. When you arrive at the hostel, you can either ring the bell, or write us a message shortly before arrival. We will then share the access code with you.
